After three well-received mixtapes of the same moniker Finally Famous, Big Sean releases Finally Famous The Album. The Detroit native who is signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint via Def Jam records, has been touring consistently over the past three years preparing fans for this release. Finally Famous is a fun album boasting mostly mid-tempo production accompanied by witty lyrics.
If the beats on Finally Famous sound similar to Kanye’s style of production, that’s because half of the album was produced by Kanye’s mentor No.I.D, who also produced Jay-Z’s “D.O.A”. The first single featuring Chris Brown “My Last” is one of smoothest tracks musically on the album. The energy of that record doesn’t stop there. “Marvin & Chardonnay” featuring Kanye West and Roscoe Dash is a monster for a Friday night on the town. This is the best chorus Roscoe Dash has delivered.
“So Much More” and “Memories” serves as the only cuts that contains meaningfulness. On “Memories”, Big Sean digs within as he raps about a friend who has a drug addiction. “My best-friend got addicted to pills, I can’t look him in eyes, you don’t know how that shit feels mentally, I ain’t trying to rock no shirt that say in memory”
Out of all the bonus tracks, “My House” is a MC’s favorite, lyrically snapping over Boi-1da’s mean organs and piano keys. Most of the songs on Finally Famous feel short and scratches the surface as a result of the meager substance. Big Sean’s passion and drive sets the precedent for growth lyrically and an overall artist. With Sean’s massive potential, a second album is inevitable.
