The number of things I have to share today is just crazy, so I’ll just jump in.

First of all, I’ve discovered a new band.

Scottish pop/rock band Little Eye actually caught my attention when I came across this video of theirs on Tumblr. I knew the video was going to be some band doing a cover of the Brittney Spears tune Hold it Against Me, but I didn’t expect it to be so…good. To say the least, I’m not much of a Brittany fan, but when I saw the comment “Those accents….” under the video? Yeah, I had to check it out. And I’m pretty happy I did. The cover is excellent. Check it out.

Not bad, huh? Since watching the video (which was done pretty well, by the way), I’ve been listening to the their original works as well. I’m a fan. It’s fun and sounds like good summer pop music. Check out their band’s MySpace (or My____, or whatever Prince/Artist formally known as Prince/back to Prince inspired thing it is they’re calling themselves these days): Click it.

Call me a square, but I don’t illegally download music. I don’t care if anyone else does and it’s not like I don’t often benefit from my many, many pirate friends – I just don’t do it directly. Which is what makes Legal Free Downloads so cool, the bands they post willingly put their music up for free (or have the option to name your price if you’re willing/able to pay for the download) and I think that’s fantastic. I have discovered a number of bands of all genres through this blog.

Because the majority of the bands they post are unsigned, lesser-known groups, I’ve found to be especially helpful that they list a few examples of more well-known bands/artists that their subject band/artist kind of sounds like. This way you have an idea of what you’re about to listen to before you click ‘Download’.

So if you’re a fan of discovering new music but you don’t have the means to go crazy in the iTunes store, know that there are awesome resources like Legal Free Downloads where you can still get a new music fix. And besides, the band’s still benefit because who doesn’t like to tell their friends about the new band they’ve discovered?

Also, just today Legal Free Downloads posted another link that’s along the same lines as what they do and appears to be equally swell: Free Albums Galore. I haven’t had a chance to explore the site in depth yet, I was just so excited to hear about another site I had to share with you right away. This site also appears to be great about writing up a blurb of some kind about the music as well as listing the genres. Very cool.

This is also very cool. I found the video under the title ‘Did He Just Play a Trance Song on a Guitar?’. The answer is: Yes. Yes he did. And he even wore a cool at while he did it. Check it out.

Every once in awhile I come across a sweet site that exists to help learn or strengthen music theory skills. Ricci Adam’s Musictheory.net is one of those sites.

The site is user-friendly and offers music theory/ear training exercises and lessons from beginner to advanced. There are also some pretty fly calculators available too if you were to need some help building a specific chord, for example. I certainly wish I had known about this site when I was trudging through my own music theory classes in college. Ish.

Anyway, so a couple of weeks ago I shared with you a post about commonly misunderstood lyrics. Well, kind of-sort of along those lines is this article I came across: Click it. It offers the answers to the biggest mysteries in songs and lyrics, including but certainly not limited to the stories behind Alanis Morissette’s angry girl lryics on her hugely successful album”Jagged Little Pill”, and the mysterious “Wrapped up like a douche” line in Manfred Mann’s Earth Band’s version of Blinded by the Light. It’s a sweet read. Check it out and let us know what you think.

That’s all I’ve got for today, kids. Remember to follow us on Facebook and Twitter so you can catch all of our updates and, quite frankly, just be a lot a cooler for doing so.

Keep on rocking in the free world,

Jenna
