Uncle Kracker
and
Rehab
by: David Gerhard
Do you remember the age old saying, Curiosity killed the cat. Well, tonight a layed one of my 9 lives to rest in a bed of faded flannel and beer soaked doo rags. Never really listening to Rehab or Uncle Kracker past what has been played on the radio these past couple years. I thought I’d give them a see what they had to offer on stage. I found out quickly that i got my self in to more than i expected.
Rehab took the stage a little later than scheduled but the crowd didn’t really mind. Rehab started the night of nice and slow but It would have had more crowd enthusiasm if there was a comparable starter band. Song after song, their was a crowd connected established. The second lead came out and that when every thing picked up. every thing except for the band its self. The two vocalists and even the back up singer were having a very active time but the instrumentalists just weren’t in to it to night. they ran through the motions of the play list. With their only claim to radio fame being bartender, They saved that one till the very last song. Even though Rehab is a rap based rock band, i have to respect them for playing a extensive set. Rehab wasn’t a bad choice for this show but i could see them opening for Hollywood Undead or even Hed PE, not Uncle Kracker.
After rearranging and setting up for 30 minutes, Uncle Kracker took to the stage. The motionless to to thier feet and left the bar for the stage. For about the first half of their set, uncle cracker played with a full band. A few gallons of sweet later, the lights dimmed and the acoustic guitar and bar stools were handed on stage. This is when I started to enjoy the show. He just sounded better when he wasn’t vocally competing with the excessive amount of bass. Sadly, after leaving the show, i don’t really remember much. After each song he thanked Minnesota and had to have a commentary lead in to each song. It was a nice set and the crowd loved it. So, I guess that what matters most.
KS95 sponsored a nice little show at the The Rock nightclub tonight. Rehab and Uncle Kracker doesn’t have many songs played on KS95 but a sponsor is a sponsor now a days. I just feel as though, $23 for 2 national recording bands which based their career on cover songs is a little extreme. Halfway through the show I really didn’t know who I was listening to anymore. I do have to admit before tonight, I’ve never seen more hands trying to clap with beer bottles. I’ll stick to the three songs i know and I pass this on to you to listener to at your own risk.
