The Ghost Inside interview with Jonathan and Aaron
by Joe Toeben – 2009
So how’s the 10 for $10 tour going so far?
It’s going really well. We’ve had a bunch of good shows and all the bands are really awesome. There’s a really cool vibe and the idea is really awesome. It’s great to be able to do so many bands for such a cheap ticket price, so you get a lot of different people coming.
Where does The Ghost Inside come from?
Honestly we just thought it sounded cool at the time, it’s not anything specific.
You guys have a pretty busy touring schedule. What’s your favorite part about touring?
Just playing shows, seeing the kids that show up and just hanging out. Getting to travel all around the world, and our country.
I love your band pictures on your MySpace. It’s pretty creative, where did the inspiration for that come from?
Don’t give us too much credit for this one, if any credit at all. Some kid just messaged us on MySpace saying he found out twins so we posted those. Jonathan – Some people say I look like Seth Rogan though.
What’s the hardest part about being an up and coming band?
Putting in all the work to get noticed. People just see the bigger bands and just think wow they are a big band but they don’t realize they probably did 3-5 years of touring, playing for no one and not getting paid. It’s just putting in a lot of work trying to get noticed. We’ve finally got somewhat noticed and we’ve been on tour for 4 years already.
Who would you cite as your major influences?
As far as what we listen to, we all listen to different music. We are all over the board with punk, hardcore, heavy metal, pop punk. Lyrically bands that stand for something like Bane is a really big influence on me, for the way I sound like Shai Hulud and Poison the Well. Our sound comes from so many different places, it has to do what you’ve listened to over the years and just everything put together.
You guys did the I Killed The Prom Queen farewell tour. What was the demeanor on that tour?
It was unbelievable. That band in Australia is one of the biggest bands ever there. For them to be their last tour, to the Australian hardcore scene that was like their Beatles. Almost all the shows were sold out; all the fans were so stoked to be there. We got a really good reaction there; a lot of people knew who we were so that was cool. It was great experience for us. They could’ve picked any band to tour with them but they picked us since we were friends with Jonah. The first tour we ever did was probably the biggest we could have ever done.
What does it mean for you to tour with bands like Bane, Terror and Poison the Well?
Unbelievable dude. Poison the Well is like my favorite band. Growing up, anyone that was my age getting into hardcore, there was no way Opposite of December wasn’t your favorite album. Poison the Well is one of the only bands that every one of us can agree on. Just being able to go on tour with those guys is just awesome. If you would have told me when I was in high school that I would be touring with Poison the Well there is no way I’d ever have believed you.
Is it better being the band on the stage or the kids in the crowd?
Both. We are touring with the bands so it’s like we get to see them every day and we are spoiled for it. The kids that come to the show, it can be more special to them because they don’t get to tour with them and see them every day.
Alright that’s all I have thanks guys.
Thanks. See you inside.
