The Devil Wears Prada interview with Mike Hranica
by Amber Hartman – 2008
How has your experience on Warped Tour been so far?
Really Good. It’s our first time on Warped Tour, and my first time every being here. It’s been really good as far as crowd reaction. The crowds in general, everything about it has been awesome. We couldn’t ask for anything else in a summer tour.
Are you scheduled to be on the whole tour?
Yep.
What’s been the craziest city on Warped Tour so far?
AH, it’s hard to say. So many good cities, there have been only two or three that have been like…eh. But yesterday was Chicago, it was definitely one of our biggest crowds, it stretched way back. It’s hard to say. There have been tons and tons of good shows. I remember Cleveland being pretty good. I don’t know, all of them have went really well.
Do you have any crazy groupie stories?
Ah, no. There have been some crazy things going on this tour. We actually made up our own set of hand signals for everything. We now have one for “lot lizard,” the random girls who are just trying to find man dudes. I don’t know, we just make fun of “lot lizards,” that’s our groupie story, I guess.
Who is your favorite band on Warped Tour?
Right now it’s hard to say. It’s our first time ever being around Breaking Horizon, they’re really nice and pretty fun to watch, so I guess those dudes. Day to Remember is off the tour now, for the last week and a half, but I think they come back on soon. Those are always or best two, it’s always good to see them. Every Time I Die, Pierce the Veil, We The Kings….everyone.
Do you get to watch the shows?
There’s press and signings and obviously the set every day, but I get to hang out and watch bands. I feel lazy a lot more. I just want to sit around and relax, but I get to watch bands.
Do any of you guys actually wear Prada?
No. One time James got a Prada wallet or something just as a joke, but that’s about it.
What’s the story behind your band name?
We just picked it, before the book was big and all, when it first came out. Then it got real big…it’s a horrible book and a horrible movie and now we’re just damned to a bad band name for all of eternity.
So, your not real big fans of the movie or the book?
Oh, no.
What’s next after Warped Tour?
We have a fall tour planned. It’s yet to be announced, I don’t think we’re allowed to tell anyone yet. It’s definitely something we’ve been looking forward to since we started the band, so it’s finally came about and we’re really excited. Yeah, pretty much the fall tour and hopefully as much writing as we can, and hopefully we’ll record a new record late this year/beginning next year.
Who does most of the writing for your band?
Chris, our guitarist. Everyone throws in their own aspects. I write all of the vocal…the lyrics. But Chris is definitely the leading songwriter. Jeremy brings the percussion part in, but Chris is definitely the lead.
