Sky Eats Airplane interview

by Amber Hartman – 2008

How has the experience been on Warped Tour so far?
It’s been pretty sweet, really hectic, kinda crazy. Gettin’ up real early.

What’s been your favorite city or best show so far?
Yesterday was a lot of fun (Chicago) or New Jersey.

What about yesterday was so great?
There was just a ton of people. It was sold out, the parking lot was sold I guess. There was a lot of kids into every band. So, that’s always good. A good show is really all about how many kids are watching you.

Can you describe your sound?
Electronica infused metal-core.

I think your publicist sent me that line…how about in your own words.
Heavier stuff, but not just breakdowns. A lot of poly-rhythm breakdowns. Stuff that doesn’t really make sense. We have a weird pattern, we don’t play in 4-4 very often, different timing. We sing and scream a lot. And we have a lot of electronic that’s not like a synth player…we have a laptop that we hook up that runs sequences and stuff.

How long has Sky Eats Airplane been together?
About a year and a half.

What do you guys have planned for after Warped Tour?
We’re going out on tour with August Framed Red and Skylight Drive, so it should be fun.

Who is your favorite band on Warped Tour?
I don’t want to seem like a crazy fan, ‘cause that’s him right there but, I like watching Every Time I Die. I like watching Schwayze too. And I think the Aggrolites rule also. Ludo is really good also…never heard of them before this tour, but I watched them and now I’ve been humming their tunes in my head all day.

Do you guys have a favorite sound of your own?
I don’t think we all agree on a favorite. But, one off our album is, World Between Us.

Who does most of the writing?
Musically….this guy right here (Zach). Our album just came out a week ago?

How long did it take you to produce your new album?
Well…we were in the studio for six weeks. But, writing it took from the time we started the band ‘til three weeks into the studio. Serious writing though…probably like two months all together.
